World Islamic Economic Forum

The 9th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) was convened this year in London, the first time it has been held in a non-Islamic country, and building on the city's reputation for being one of the leading financial and cultural centres of the world.

Maslaha was invited to speak and showcase work at the forum, held at the Excel Centre over 29 – 31 October 2013, with the theme “Changing World, New Relationships” to encapsulate the emergence of new economic linkages between nations across borders, religions and cultures in a fast changing world.

Raheel Mohammed, founder and director of Maslaha, joined a panel introduced by Lord Bates and chaired by Carlos Pierre of Kiva to discuss 'Exploring Microfinance in Social Enterprise'. Discussion focussed on looking forward to the future.

The content of his talk is outlined in his blog, here.

Maslaha's work also featured around the wider Forum. Our films and material from The City Speaks and The Book of Travels exhibitions were showcased at the MOCAfest - the WIEF Foundation's art festival.

An accompnying full-page article written by Raheel was included on page 3 of the WIEF Changing World, New Relationshps brochure. Read the full article entitled 'Creating a knowledge-based economy' here.
