Director of Education
Latifa is Director of Education at Maslaha, leading on our Schools With Roots programme and wider education work. She has been part of the Maslaha team since January 2014 and has had a specific focus on developing our education programmes and leading on our work around gender equality; spearheading and developing our Islam and Feminism and Muslim Girls Fence projects. Latifa features as a regular commentator on Maslaha's work and issues around faith and gender, and women's rights in media including Radio 2's Good Morning Sunday, Radio 4 and others. She holds an LLM in Human Rights, Conflict and Justice from SOAS University and an LLB in Law with Politics from Queen’s University, Belfast.
She is also a trustee at the Inclusive Mosque Initiative. Latifa previously worked as a correspondent for Turkish daily Today’s Zaman in Istanbul and her articles have been published in, among others, The Guardian and The Scotsman newspapers. She has conducted research for the Irish Human Rights Centre exploring the notion of 'faith in democracy' in the context of Turkey and as a former arts commentator was selected as one of ten European candidates for the Critical Endeavour arts writing program curated by Jardin d’Europe in Vienna in 2012.
