Muslim Girls Fence gives evidence to the Women and Equalities Committee

30 January 2026

Muslim Girls Fence contributed evidence to the Women and Equalities Committee's inquiry into Gendered Islamophobia, which examined the discrimination, harassment and barriers faced by Muslim women and girls across the UK. Drawing on our experience working directly with Muslim girls and young women through our creative, sporting and community programmes, we highlighted the impact of gendered Islamophobia on mental health, confidence, belonging and participation in public life. The Committee recognised that community initiatives play a vital role in supporting Muslim women and girls' mental health, wellbeing and participation in social and physical activities.

In its final report, the Committee highlighted Muslim Girls Fence as an example of a community programme that enables Muslim women and girls to be their authentic selves without fear of judgement, censorship or harassment. The Committee also recommended that the Government increase its support for community-led grassroots initiatives aimed at helping Muslim women and girls participate in social activity, recognising the important role these spaces play in fostering belonging, confidence and wellbeing.
